Private Sedona Club Edges Eight Places Higher on Publication’s List of Elite of Courses Built After 1960
SEDONA, ARIZ. – For the second consecutive year, Seven Canyons has been named one of America’s best modern golf courses, according to Golfweek Magazine, moving up to 91st from last year’s ranking of 99th.
The latest honor was announced in the March 10 edition of the highly respected publication and came as a result of the golf course being visited and judged by Golfweek’s panel of course raters that annually compiles the publication’s list of “America’s Best” modern and classic golf courses.
Modern courses are defined by the magazine as those built after 1960.
Bradley S. Klein, a senior writer for Golfweek and head of the magazine’s rating panel has described Seven Canyons as “the IMAX of golf.” In 2005 the respected golf journalist wrote: “The Man Upstairs created the powerful imagery that makes Seven Canyons in Sedona, Ariz., so memorable. The 6,746-yard, par-70 layout calls for thoughtful lay ups off many tees. You can be forgiven if you overlook the strategic subtleties of the place, because at 4,500 feet above sea level in the red rocks region bordering Coconino National Forest, Seven Canyons is one of the most visually overpowering courses to be found anywhere in the world.”
