GOLFWEEK NAMES SEVEN CANYONS COUNTRY'S FIFTH BEST NEW GOLF COURSE FOR 2004-2005New Sedona Club Continues to Claim Accolades SEDONA, ARIZ. - Adding to its rapidly growing list of accolades, Seven Canyons has been named the fifth best new golf course in America that opened during 2003-2004, according to Golfweek Magazine. Late last year, the golf course at Seven Canyons was selected as one of the best new golf courses in the entire world by Golfer Magazine, and was named as one of America's Top 10 New Private Courses by Golf Digest Magazine early in 2004. The latest honor came as a result of the golf course being visited and adjudicated by Golfweek's panel of course raters that annually compiles the publication's list of "America's Best" modern and classic golf courses. Bradley S. Klein, a senior writer for Golfweek and an expert on golf course design, wrote: "The Man Upstairs created the powerful imagery that makes Seven Canyons in Sedona, Ariz., so memorable. The 6,746-yard, par-70 layout calls for thoughtful lay ups off many tees. You can be forgiven if you overlook the strategic subtleties of the place, because at 4,500 feet above sea level in the red rocks region bordering Coconino National Forest, Seven Canyons is one of the most visually overpowering courses to be found anywhere in the world." Seven Canyons was the top rated Arizona course, according to the panel of experts. Dave Cavan, principal of Sedona Development Partners LLC, the developer of the project, said the award "is an honor that our members certainly will cherish and is a testament to the design talents of Tom Weiskopf. When you consider that here are more than 200 new private golf courses coming on line each year across America, to be included in this select company is something very special." Seven Canyons Honored by Golfweek Already recognized by local experts as "Arizona's most scenic new golf course," Seven Canyons was handcrafted by Weiskopf who calls it "one of the finest sites I have ever had to work with." Measuring 6,746 yards and playing to a par of 70, the course puts a premium on shot-making with small greens, narrow landing areas, classic-style bunkering, mature trees, natural water features and constant changes in elevation. Taking a page from the past, Weiskopf's latest gem is a throwback to some of the world's classic courses such as Pine Valley, Merion and Winged Foot. "Most of the new courses being designed today are more than 7,200 yards long," Weiskopf said. "This is not the case at Seven Canyons. The player must think his way around the course. It demands precise play from the tee and a delicate short game." Set in the middle of "the most Beautiful Place in America," according to USA Weekend Magazine, Seven Canyons is a new private destination club designed expressly for accomplished individuals and families looking for a unique and congenial hideaway offering spectacular beauty, unsurpassed recreation and five-star service and amenities. Simply put, Seven Canyons - surrounded by 100,000 acres of red rock-enhanced national forest land - represents an opportunity of a lifetime for affluent members and owners looking for a combination of natural exhilaration and serene relaxation. Offering private golf club memberships, luxurious shared ownership villas, and 30 private, estate-sized home sites, Seven Canyons is destined to become the Southwest's most exclusive address for those looking for "an unparalleled level of pride and personal service." One of the most unique aspects of Seven Canyons will be its Club Village, an enclave of three intimate buildings with connecting courtyards that have been effectively designed to be in perfect harmony with the spectacular red rock surroundings. The Club Village includes a golf shop, fine and casual dining, a members' lounge, locker facilities and rooms for special events and meetings. A holistic spa, Wellness Center with complete fitness facilities, and a swimming and tennis club are also part of the Club Village, along with 12 luxury casitas that will be utilized by members for shorter overnight stays. Seven Canyons is a premiere venture by Cavan Real Estate. |
