MORE THAN $160,000 RAISED FOR BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS AT THIRD ANNUAL GOLF EVENT AT SEVEN CANYONSAugust 30 Event Sets another Record Thanks to Active Participation By Local Residents, Business Leaders, Seven Canyons Members SEDONA, Ariz. - For the third consecutive year, underprivileged boys and girls throughout northern Arizona were the big winners during the Third Annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona Golf Tournament held on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Sedona's Seven Canyons. Thanks to the efforts of local residents, business leaders and members of Seven Canyons, the event raised more than $160,000 for the organization's annual fund raising campaign. Officials of the event said that more than 125 golfers participated in the all-day event that was hosted by Dave Cavan and the management staff of Seven Canyons. Tammy Walz, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Arizona, said the year-long effort "provides us with a terrific start to our annual fund raising efforts. Members of the Sedona community put forth a great deal of time and energy to make the event such a success, and then participants backed it up with major financial contributions that will go a long way in helping us meet the needs of our young constituents in the coming year." The $160,000 total this year - combined with the more than $125,000 raised last year and the more than $40,000 donated in 2003 - means the annual event has contributed more than $325,000 to the organization over the past three years. According to Dina Emma, destination services manager at Seven Canyons, proceeds from this year's event will be earmarked for start-up costs for the Boys and Girls Club's new Child Development Center for children ages three to five, scheduled to open in the fall of 2006. As in the past, 100 percent of the event's proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club. Lew Hoyt, a member of Seven Canyons and chairman of this year's event, said, "We are once again thrilled that the tournament and silent and live auctions were such a success. Our committee understands that monies raised from this annual affair can make a difference in young people's lives." Seven Canyons, Sedona's only private golf club, has rapidly gained a reputation of being one of the country's finest private destination clubs, and was selected as one of the Top 10 Private New Courses in America by Golf Digest Magazine in 2004. This summer the Tom Weiskopf design was named the fifth best new course built in America during 2003 and 2004 by Golfweek Magazine. Seven Canyons is a premiere venture by Cavan Real Estate Investments. |
